나는 ‘탑’이라는 상징물에 담긴 인간의 갖가지 욕망을 상상한다. 인간의 꿈, 희망, 소원, 염원들을 끈에 담아 하나하나 탑에 매단다. 탑의 얇은 뼈대에 달린 연약한 끈들은 바람에 휘둘리며 탑을 놓치지 않으려 애쓴다. 멀리서 보면 마치 춤을 추듯, 불타오르 듯, 그것이 인간 세상을 보여줄 수 있다고 생각해도 좋을까? 우리의 믿음은 곧 부러져버릴지도 모를 앙상한 뼈들을 힘겹게 부여잡고 있다.
Imagine the garden variety of human desires that a pagoda symbolizes. Their dreams, hopes, wishes, and aspirations are tied into knots to the thin structure of the pagoda. These fragile ribbons flutter in the air, struggling to hold onto the pagoda. Seen from a distance, they resemble a dancing flame. Perhaps they represent the world we inhabit. Our faith desperately clings to the scrawny figure.
